Welcome to convictbook

Come face to face with Australia's convicts on convictbook.

This site contains records for more than 123, 000 of the estimated 164, 000 convicts who were transported to the Australian penal colonies by the British government  throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.

You can find information on each convict including information about their conviction and details of the ship that brought them to Australia.

Contribute

We hope that convictbook will become a hub for people to communicate with each other about individual convicts, for example,  to share the stories behind the data, or to connect with people who are interested in tracing common convict ancestors.

If you have a story to tell, additional information or photos for a particular convict, we invite you to contribute through convictbook's comment system, or provide general feedback on the site here

Get started

Why not start by taking a look at some of the featured convicts, using the search function to find convicts by name, or viewing convict data trends on a timeline, map or chart.
